Krakow Stag Do – Old Town or Kazimierz? A Local Planner’s Guide

Planning a Krakow stag do and wondering where to stay? Here’s the short answer: both Old Town and Kazimierz are excellent choices.

If your plans focus on nightclubs, gentlemen’s clubs or British and Irish sports pubs around the Main Market Square, staying nearby makes sense. If you’re mainly interested in restaurants, bars and exploring the city, either location works well.

For larger groups with a packed schedule, easy access for a minibus or coach may actually matter more than the neighbourhood itself.

Start with the weekend, not the postcode

One of the best things about Krakow is how compact its city centre is.

The Main Market Square (Rynek Główny), in the heart of Old Town, and Plac Nowy, a popular meeting point in Kazimierz, are only around 1.5–1.6 km apart on foot (16 minutes walking, 10 minutes by tram, 10-15minutes by taxi).

That’s worth remembering when browsing accommodation. A hotel or apartment advertised as being in Old Town isn’t necessarily right beside the Main Square. Some properties can be just as far from the square as accommodation closer to Kazimierz.

Krakow offers plenty of choice: hotels around the Main Square, apartments on the surrounding streets, properties in Kazimierz and accommodation between the two areas.

Our advice? Don’t rule out a location just because of its district name. Check the actual address and how well it fits your weekend plans.

Old Town: when you want the Main Square on your doorstep

The Main Market Square is Krakow’s historic heart, an impressive square measuring approximately 200 by 200 metres, surrounded by restaurants, cafés, bars and beautiful architecture.

For some groups, staying close to the square is part of the experience. They want to step outside their accommodation, feel the atmosphere of Krakow and have everything within walking distance.

Old Town is particularly convenient if your group plans to visit nightclubs, gentlemen’s clubs, British or Irish sports pubs and other nightlife venues around the Main Square.

It’s also practical if you’ve booked several activities in the centre, such as oil wrestling, a pub crawl or a stag dinner, depending on their exact locations.

If your ideal weekend involves walking out of the hotel and heading straight to the bars without arranging transport, look for accommodation close to Rynek Główny.

Kazimierz: great bars, restaurants and a different atmosphere

Kazimierz, Krakow’s historic Jewish quarter, has a distinctive atmosphere of its own.

Plac Nowy is much smaller and more informal than the Main Market Square, with plenty of bars, restaurants and interesting streets nearby.

If your group enjoys good food, drinks and exploring different places, there’s no real reason to favour one district automatically. Both Old Town and Kazimierz have an excellent selection of restaurants and bars.

Kazimierz isn’t necessarily quieter, either. It can be very lively, especially at weekends.

The main difference is the atmosphere rather than the quality of the nightlife. And with the Main Market Square only a relatively short walk away, staying in Kazimierz doesn’t mean missing out on Old Town.

An excellent alternative: staying between Old Town and Kazimierz

Here’s another option we particularly like: accommodation between the two areas.

For many stag groups, this can be an ideal location.

You can explore restaurants and bars in either district, enjoy the atmosphere of both and have plenty of flexibility when planning your evenings.

A comfortable apartment or hotel between Old Town and Kazimierz might be a better choice than a smaller property right next to the Main Square.

Unless your weekend revolves around specific venues and a very tight timetable, the comfort and quality of your accommodation may matter much more than being a few streets closer to one location.

Where should a stag group stay?

Before booking accommodation for your Krakow stag weekend, consider these practical details:

  • Group size: Is the accommodation suitable for everyone? Are there enough proper beds, bathrooms and shared spaces?
  • Property rules: Does the hotel or apartment accept stag groups? Check noise restrictions, deposits and visitor policies.
  • Nightlife plans: If you want to spend most evenings around the Main Square, check the walking distance from your accommodation.
  • Arrival arrangements: Does the property allow late check-in or offer luggage storage? If your group is arriving by plane, consider a Krakow airport transfer to your accommodation.
  • Finding your way home after a night out: Got a few mates who tend to lose their phones, wallets or… sense of direction after a few drinks? If so, choose accommodation that’s easy to find, ideally near a well-known landmark. It could save you from expensive taxi rides searching for your own apartment, an unexpected sightseeing tour of Krakow on a night tram or, worst of all… spending the night on a park bench!
  • Transport access: Can a van, minibus or coach reach the entrance, or will the group need to walk to a nearby pick-up point?

This last point is especially important if your weekend includes several organised activities. Parts of Old Town, including the Main Market Square and surrounding streets, have restricted vehicle access. Some streets in Kazimierz have similar restrictions. This means your driver may not be able to collect the group directly outside the hotel or apartment.

For a small group with a relaxed schedule, that might not matter at all. For 25 people with several activities booked, it could make a real difference.

A simple two-night plan for each area

Both locations work well for a typical Friday-to-Sunday Krakow stag weekend.

Option A: Staying near the Main Market Square

Friday: Arrive, check in and kick off your weekend with a stag dinner, followed by a private guided pub crawl through Krakow’s lively Old Town, discovering hidden gems, local favourites and some of the best nightlife spots along the way.

Option B: Staying in Kazimierz or between the two areas

Friday: Start your weekend with dinner and drinks in Kazimierz. Alternatively, let us organise a private nightlife guide for Old Town or Kazimierz, discovering hidden gems, quirky bars and local favourites you might otherwise miss. Or explore the neighbourhood’s food and drink scene with a customised food and vodka tasting tour.

Neither option means spending the entire weekend in one district. After all, it’s Krakow, not London or Tokyo – you don’t need to plan an expedition just to get from one neighbourhood to another! 😉

When transport matters more than the district

Here’s something we’ve learned from organising stag weekends in Krakow: a five-minute walk means something very different for a group of six compared with a group of 25 following a packed schedule.

If you’ve arranged several activities with fixed starting times, every few minutes can matter.

For larger groups, particularly those travelling together by coach, staying somewhere with convenient vehicle access may be more practical than choosing accommodation directly beside the Main Square.

A hotel slightly further from the nightlife but close to a suitable pick-up point could save time throughout the weekend. For smaller groups or more flexible schedules, walking between Old Town and Kazimierz is usually straightforward. Krakow also has Uber, Bolt and traditional taxis, which can be relatively affordable, depending on demand and distance.

However, arranging several separate vehicles for a group of 20 or more isn’t always convenient. In those cases, one pre-arranged transfer is often the simpler option.

You can explore our Krakow stag transfer options if you’d prefer to have group transport organised in advance.

Five things to decide before booking accommodation

Before choosing where to stay for your Krakow stag do, ask yourself:

  1. How many people are coming? A group of eight will have different accommodation and transport needs from a group of 25.
  2. What’s your nightlife style? Mainly clubs and sports pubs around the Main Square, or restaurants and bars across both districts?
  3. How busy is your schedule? Are you planning several activities with fixed starting times, or a more flexible weekend?
  4. Will you need group transport? If you’re using a van, minibus or coach, check where it can legally stop near your accommodation.
  5. Which property offers the best comfort? Don’t sacrifice suitable rooms, enough bathrooms or convenient facilities just to stay slightly closer to the square.

Our local recommendation

If you’re planning a relaxed stag weekend without a packed timetable, choose the accommodation you like best in Old Town, Kazimierz or somewhere between them. All three options can work extremely well.

If your group wants to be surrounded by Main Square nightlife and walk to the clubs, staying nearby is a sensible choice.

But if you’re organising a larger group, especially 20 or more people, with several booked activities and shared coach transfers, we’d recommend checking the exact accommodation location before confirming your reservation.

The best location isn’t always the closest one to the Main Square.

It’s the one that makes your whole weekend easier.

Are stag pranks safe in Krakow? Consent, risk and professional organisation explained

A good stag prank should surprise the groom. It should never surprise the people responsible for running it. The more realistic or physically demanding the scenario, the more important the planning, participant checks and professional supervision become.
